Which course should I take?

Which Electronic Music Production course should I take?

It all depends on your background, and to some extent, your goals.

If you are new to music production, then Course A is the one for you. When you're learning to be a producer, you face two distinct challenges: learning the tools (software and hardware), and learning fundamental concepts (sound design, drum programming, arranging, etc.) By focusing on Ableton Live, Course A gets you up to speed on one powerful software package, and then takes you beyond software skills so you can get on to the real business of making music.

Once you've mastered Ableton Live and have become conversant in the art and craft of making electronic music, you can go anywhere you want with it. If you decide to use other software tools, you will learn them faster and get better results because you know the right questions to ask, have a clear sense of your production workflow, and have learned the language of MIDI and digital audio.

If you already have solid production fundamentals, but need to improve your music software skills, then Course B may be a better choice. Here, you will learn to use Reason, Ableton Live and Logic, so, you will naturally be spending more time mastering software skills. However, you will get a great overview of three very powerful programs with very different approaches to making music. Not only will you get through the most difficult part of the learning curve in all three programs, you'll also walk away with a clear sense of which program (or programs) makes you the most productive.
